Full time or part time?
You can choose to study for CELTA
- full-time (four consecutive weeks)
- part-time (12 hours a week for 3 months)
In terms of course content, the two courses are identical; both involve 120 hours contact hours and a minimum of 120 additional learning.
The full-time course is extremely intensive, requiring attendance between 9am and 5.30pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 09.00 to 17.00. The part-time course runs all day Monday and Tuesday morning and gives you the flexibility to fit your study programme around other professional and personal commitments.
What does BLTC Celta involve?
Our CELTA courses:
- integrate theory and methodology but focus on hands-on practice
- provide 120 contact hours including: methodology input sessions, supervised lesson planning, teaching practice, feedback on teaching, peer observation, observation of experienced teachers and consultation time
- include six hours of assessed teaching practice per trainee (with real students at different levels)
- include four hours’ directed observation of live lessons taught by experienced ELT professionals plus two hours’ observation of lessons on DVD
- include a minimum of 120 additional learning hours for reading, research, assignment writing and lesson preparation
- require you to submit a portfolio of work including teaching practice materials, language analysis tasks, a student case study and other graded written assignments
- offer quality control. An external assessor, appointed by Cambridge ESOL, moderates each course.

- The techniques you need to produce effective and motivating lessons
- The professionalism you need to increase your job prospects
Am I eligible to apply?
Ideally you should :
- Have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education
- Be aged 20 or over (we will consider 18 & 19 year olds on a case by case basis at our discretion)
- Have a standard of English that will enable you to teach English at a range of levels (proficient C2 level)
